Villa Tuscany

The sun rises and I hear the rooster crowing outside my window at the break of dawn.  I quietly slip out of my bed and walk down the stairs to brew myself a cup of tea.  The tractors in the vineyards start up and I can hear their faint rumble in the distance.  I walk down the stone steps to our terrace overlooking the olive groves of Castellare and breathe in the brisk Chianti air.  I am home! One of the best reasons to rent a villa in Europe is to offer a sense of home.  Staying in a...

Bellissimo Cone.issimo

Gelato.  The very word puts joy in my soul!  The thought of lush, bright fruit flavors, deep chocolate and vibrant nuts is enough to make a girl pack a bag in a jiffy to catch a plane to bella Italy…..stat! While traveling, my favorite question to ask taxi drivers, hoteliers, bellmen and passersby is, “Dove il bello gelato?”  Everyone in Italy seems to have an opinion and I am happy to test them all!! The Man and I had an appointment at the Four Seasons Florence for a site inspection and dinner (more on our amazing anniversary dinner in...

Tranquillo: Honeymoon Costa Rica Style

The city of San Jose, Costa Rica fades into the background.  The Man and our driver chat happily about the Costa Rican triumvirate—the church, the bar, and the soccer field.  I gaze out the window watching buildings and homes turn into farms and then into deep forest. We wind our way over mountains, into ravines—each town we passed getting smaller and smaller.  I soak up the backroads of Costa Rica—breathing in the fresh air and imagining myself living in the homes we pass….. Our driver stops to allow us to marvel at an unexpected waterfall from the recent rains. I...

Costa Rica Waterfall

Here we are just outside Arenal, Costa Rica, standing at the top of the waterfall, the cool morning air kisses my face.  Nervous chatter surrounds me.  Just don’t look down, Becky…keep your gaze level and don’t look down. The Man—cute in his rappelling helmet and worker’s gloves—asks me:  “Are we really going to do this?”  “Yes!” I reply…..more confident outside than in. A young woman in her early twenties goes first—screams of terror turn into squeals of delight.  Why did we have to go down the tallest one first?? It’s my turn.  I lean over the edge of the...

Virtuoso Travel Week Las Vegas

Last week, I had a marathon Vegas Week….at the tables…looking for that jackpot supplier that will make my clients’ dream vacation become a reality.  I met with the top hoteliers, cruise executives and tour operators in the world – for four minutes each – from 8:15am until 4:00pm four days in a row.  I discovered tented arctic expeditions, hotels who kept bees on their rooftops to make their own honey, Argentinean working ranches, sites for the 2014 World Cup, and an elephant polo club.  Sitting through hundreds of four minute presentations, I learned which hotels have been renovated, who has added organic and sustainable practices and, of course, specials good through the end of the year. Over the coming weeks, I will be sharing my finds in short blog posts….but of course, the best way to find out what’s hot in the travel world is to shoot me an email, give me a call or stop by the office. Also feel free to leave your questions in comment form on my blog. For now, it’s time to start the blender…add some ice….and celebrate the completion of a travel conference marathon....
